Do Rules Give Us More Freedom? 💭

I dug out my bullet journal from last year and was pleased to find out I achieved everything I set out to do in 12 months.

That’s not luck.

Nor was that manifestation.

Baby steps, and a lot of tweaking in the process.

How can you make the remaining 5 months of 2024 great?

Today in 5 minutes or less, you’ll learn:

✔️ How I eliminate distractions from my Apple Watch

✔️ How to stay focused on your goals

✔️ Why rules give us more freedom

Doable ideas 💭

Put your apple watch on airplane mode.

No notifications, and you still track your activity and sleep.

More deep work, more battery and less radiation? I’m in.

Reflections 🪞

In the past 7 days, despite all that’s happened, where are you seeing your higher-self emerging? Where do you see your own Future Self coming into BEING?

(from Dr. Benjamin Hardy)

Mindfulness 🧘🏻‍♀️

Do rules give us more freedom? 💭

I’m someone who works extremely well with self-imposed rules.

Slow-carb diet, no phone 30 minutes before bed, never keep junk food in the house… 🥑

I set up the rules that would maximise my chance of becoming my ideal self.

Then I honour the rules and keep the promises I made to myself.

Rules freed me from making repeated decisions. 🤔

Rules let me experience life fully with new found mental clarity.

I never believed in this.

In fact I tried very hard to go against authorities since I was a teenager.

Then I realised, without certain rules, life could be a disaster.

This week I gave up my diet. Without proper planning, I was like a lost puppy going after any high-carb, ultra-processed food I could get my hands on. 🥐

Similarly, when I used my phone in bed (sometimes in the middle of the night), my sleep became a mess. 📱

You don’t want to act as you please all the time.

Our default is to seek comfort and certainties.

Someone who’s guided by his desires might be on a destructive path.

That said, always question the rationale behind rules.

What rules do you follow in your own life on both micro and macro levels?

Do they keep you accountable for your actions? Do they help you become who you want to be?

This week I talked about how I improve the attention of my clients who are diagnosed with ADHD and what we can all learn from them 👇🏻
