Today in 5 minutes or less, you’ll learn:
✔️ Why I start to say more “yes”
✔️ Simple gratitude practice
✔️ The power of “a year ago today”
Doable ideas 💭
Say yes to catch-ups.
Or better, initiate random ones.
It’s important to maintain (and expand) your network.
I’m more introverted, but I stand by this idea.
It is possible to feel energised from interacting with people you only talk to once a year.
Reflections 🪞
Think about the people you don’t know who help make your life easier.
Mindfulness 🧘🏻♀️
I recently started looking back on “today last year” in my journal entry.
It was quite fun reading what I was doing and thinking in the past.
Journaling is like taking pictures of the mind – you capture the moment.
Here are 3 lessons I learnt from looking back:
1/ Most things (especially the negative ones) don’t matter in the long run
It was interesting knowing most worries didn’t really matter.
That extra cheat meal, that forgotten appointment…
I don’t even remember what or why I worried in some occasions.
Similarly, we can learn to let go by zooming out.
Most events are insignificant.
Let alone our thoughts and additional worries.
2/ Perfect decisions only exist in hindsight
Our past selves made the best decision possible given the information and circumstance.
It’s easier to accept things as they are, and to make decisions with all available resources instead of spending days wondering about the “what-if”s.
Most things are outside our control.
It is hard to predict where these tiny (or major) decisions would lead us to.
These days I make sure my behaviours will lead me to the direction I like to go.
The habits. The job I take and quit. The people I hang out with.
Be mindful.
3/ Seize the day.
Treasure every moment.
Coming from a corporate background, I cannot emphasise how important this is.
Stop auto-piloting.
Make sure you spend your time, energy and attention on things you truly care about.
Make your day more memorable.
Looking back at my journal entries, I knew I wouldn’t regret that random cafe hopping, impromptu date, or spending my down time making videos.
You only die once.
Ideas Worth Pondering 🧠
You cannot control most outcomes in life, but you can usually influence them. Releasing your attachment to the results does not mean releasing your responsibility to the situation.
